Mr. Daniel Edward Phipps, 81, of Aiken, SC, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in Quincy, MA, he was the son of the late Ralph Earl and Florence Mary McNamara Phipps. Before moving to Aiken three months ago, he lived in various cities in Massachusetts, North Carolina, Vermont, New Hampshire, and California. He was a communicant of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church in Hampstead, NC. During his younger years, Daniel played the trumpet in several dance bands. He loved to fish, garden, bird watch and listen to jazz music. His most treasured moments were spent with his children and grand children. Daniel was predeceased by his best friend and loving wife of 57 years Leah Janet Phipps. He is survived by his sons, Ralph Phipps and his wife Debbie of Aiken, SC; Daniel Phipps and his wife Cathy of Soquel, CA; Gregory Phipps of Roxboro, NC; Paul Phipps of Greenfield, MA; daughters, Lauren Lynch and husband John of Wilbraham, MA; Claudia Rowland of Barrington, RI; Pamela Swain and husband Edward of Lunenburg, MA; Denise Craig and husband Brad of Watsonville, CA; brother-in-law, Harold Burke, Scottsdale, AZ; and fifteen grandchildren. A Funeral Mass for Mr. Daniel Edward Phipps will be celebrated on Monday, January 26, 2008 at 10 AM at St. Anne and St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Sturbridge, MA. Interment for Daniel and his wife Janet will take place at 2:00 PM at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Hopkinton, MA with military honors.
