Graveside Funeral services for Mr. John Paul Marshall, Sr. 85, of Ridge Spring, SC, will take place on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10am at Ft. Jackson NAtional Cemetery with Fr. Grant Wiseman officiating.. Mr. Marshall died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, Downtown Division, Augusta, GA. Memorial donations may be directed to the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, Augusta, GA or to the USO. GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, is assisting the family.
Born in Schenectady, NY, he was a son of the late John Bikowitz and Mary Tenace Bikowitz. Before moving to Ridge Spring in 1982, he had lived in Springfield, MA.
John served his country in the US Army during WW II and was chronicled in a recent documentary of WW II Veterans by the Augusta Richmond Historical Society. He was an accomplished cook/caterer, having worked in various food service occupations, including retiring from the Aiken County School System in 2006. John attended St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church in Aiken and was a member of The American Legion Post #133, Ridge Spring.
John was survived by his wife, Claire Mason Marshall, Ridge Spring; three sons, John P. Marshall, Jr., Scott Marshall and Jimmy Marshall; a daughter, Pamela Furbeck; a sister, Mary Ann Olling, Sacramento, CA; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
