Ellen remembered when my adopted parents brought me home. She took me under her wing until the end. I grew up two houses down from her. We talked on the telephone line for hours and hours over the years. The last time we spoke on the phone for hours was the Friday before she passed. She was like a mother to me and all the talks will be greatly missed. I love you Ell, rest in peace. Deepest sympathy to Catherine and Joanna.

My mother grew up with Ellen...I knew her all my life. She spent a lot of time with me when I was little. She took me to watch the race horses run in the early mornings...she played all of her Barry Manilow albums for me and taught me the words. My fondest memories are sitting on the piano bench between Ellen and Mrs. Pattis singing our hearts out. Everyone in our neighborhood loved Ellen. She will be sadly missed by me and my family.

When I got to know Ellen, I was a young child who had just moved to Aiken with my family. I have special memories of riding on her shoulders as she walked me around the neighborhood and introduced me to our new neighbors. I was always welcome in her home and spent many hours through the years over there just talking to Ellen and her mother. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. I know she will be missed by many.

I was friends with Ellen at USCA. She was smarter than anyone and I see she was a crusader for what was right throughout her life. I send my condolences and sympathies for you, joanna and catherine.

Ellen will always be a special memory of our years in Aiken. She was a devoted neighbor who was close to all of our family members. She was outgoing and cheerful and we enjoyed her frequent visits. She and Cat were constant sources of encouragement and an inspiration to all of us.

My friendship with Ellen dates to my first arrival in Aiken in 1963. For two years, we drank coffee and ate cheese and exhausted the cigarette industry. When she took up singing \'semi-professionally\' I remember how shocked and pleased I was with her ability. We were in Columbia at USC for two years together. What I remember most vividly is how she coped with her health problems which were excessive to someone as young as she was. Her sense of humor was at the forefront of her personality.
