Aiken, SC-Funeral services for CMS Raymond V. Van Vliet, U.S.A.F., Retired, will be held Friday, January 23, 2004 at 11 AM at George Funeral Homes, Southside Chapel, 3175 Whiskey Rd., Aiken, SC, with Rev. Dr. Ronnie K. Powell officiating. Interment with full military honors provided by the Shaw Air Force Base Honor Guard will follow in the veteran?s section of Southlawn Cemetery, Aiken, SC. The family will receive friends on the morning of the service from 10 until service time. CMS Van Vliet, 85, of Aiken, SC, husband of Mrs. Mildred Leech Van Vliet, died Tuesday, morning, January 20, 2004 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Born in Beardstown, IL, a son of the late Arthur Newton Van Vliet and Clara Louise Lauman Van Vliet, he had been a resident of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, for thirty-five years, where he was a member of Mary Ester United Methodist Church, prior to coming to Aiken, SC, in October 2003, where he attended Trinity United Methodist Church. A veteran of World War II, where he flew the HUMP, he was also a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, having served in England, Guam, Japan, and Vietnam. In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, Mrs. Mildred Leech Van Vliet, a daughter Sharon and her husband, Robert Whitaker, Aiken, SC; sons, Raymond V., Jr., and his wife Jackie Van Vliet, Triangle, VA, and Steven Alan and his wife, Nikki Van Vliet, Alamogordo, NM; brother, Walter and his wife Mary Van Vliet, Seffner, FL; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, survive.
