Obituary of Hosea Clarence H.C.'' Chandler

Hosea Clarence ?H.C.? Chandler of Aiken departed this life Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at Portsbridge Hospice in Augusta, GA. Mr. Chandler was 86.
Born in Williamston, SC, to the late Clarence Edgar Chandler and Julia Jane Hooper Chandler, he was one of ten children. Two brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
He was married for 67 years to the late Elizabeth Frady Chandler, who preceded him in death on February 10, 2005.
Mr. Chandler is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne Jackson, Aiken; brother Milford Chandler, Seneca, SC; sister, Ann Culpepper of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Beverly, Sandra and Jonathan Jackson; and great-granddaughter Chloe Elizabeth Jackson, all of Aiken.
An accomplished musician, Mr. Chandler played guitar, mandolin and banjo in several Top 40 bluegrass bands in the Southeast, once appearing on the Grand Ole Opry with bluegrass legend Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys, and Bill?s brother, Charlie Monroe. He was also a member of a well-known country music band, Fisher Hendley?s Rhythm Aristocrats, who played on Columbia and Greenville radio stations, and once played for former SC Governor and later Senator Olin D. Johnston.
During World War II, he worked for Bell Aircraft, Marietta, GA, in production of B-29 aircraft and also in the aircraft division of Crosley-Avco Corp. at Nashville, TN. Mr. Chandler retired in 1979 from the DuPont Company at Savannah River Site?s Reactor Engineering Division of the Savannah River Laboratory after 25 years of service with DuPont.
He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church on Hwy. 1 North, Aiken, where funeral services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Marion Britton officiating. Entombment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be members of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 7, 2005, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Avenue, S.W., Aiken, SC.
