Please share a memory of Thelma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thelma Reeves Cunningham White, 90, wife of 66 years of the late Clayson James White, entered into rest on Monday, August 29, 2011. The daughter of the late Evans Henry and Nora Reeves Cunningham, she was born on February 12, 1921 in Lobelville, Tennessee. She graduated from Perry County High School in 1938 and Falls Business College in Nashville, Tennessee. She was employed by the Army Service Forces Corp of Engineers in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, CSRA Girl Scout Council, and retired from the Aiken County School District where she worked in the central library. She was a resident of Aiken for 60 years after moving from Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 1951 with her husband during the beginning stages of the Savannah River Plant. She enjoyed her life in Aiken and loved to stay busy with family and friends.
She was quite a homemaker, with her favorite pastimes being cooking, sewing, gardening and yardwork. Many enjoyable hours were spent in the kitchen trying out new recipes or repeating favorites, especially during holidays and family gatherings. She was also an accomplished seamstress, staying busy at the sewing machine creating clothing, curtains, pillows, and suits as well as using her hands to do various types of needlework. She took great interest in all aspects of her home. Her biggest love, though, was her family. She was a loving wife and mother, always supportive, encouraging, and involved with her children's activities when they were growing up, and always relished visits with her adult children and grandchildren.
She was a member of St. John's Methodist Church since 1951 and participated in various aspects of the church she loved. She was a circle member, participated in the quilting group, assisted with meal preparations in the kitchen, was involved with ACTS, and helped in the needlework of the present alter cushions at the church. She had many fond memories of St. John's.
