Obituary of Otto Sommer McCarty

Funeral services for Otto Sommer McCarty, 76, of Aiken, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the Chapel of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Animal Shelter online at www.fotasaiken.org. Mr. McCarty, loving husband of Susan, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Born in Aiken, he was a son of the late Iradel and Leila Sommer McCarty. He was a lifelong cattleman, a US Airforce Veteran, a member of Kalmia Hill Chapel, Aiken County Cattleman's Association and was a former board member of the National Senepol Cattleman's Association. Mr. McCarty was also a graduate of Aiken High School and retired from the Savannah River Site after 34 years. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evalyn McCarty Boyd. Survivors include, his wife, Susan Perry McCarty of the home; a daughter, Angela McCarty Strickland of Myrtle Beach; a son, Michael Bennett McCarty (Samantha) of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Iradel McCarty; grandchildren, Dannion Redd of Graniteville and Lauren McCarty of Augusta and a great-grandson, Leelan Valenzuela.
