A memorial service for Walter Marquess Coakley will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 1pm at the chapel of George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken, SC 29801 with Rev. Jim Giddens, Pastor of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church officiating. Memorial donations may be directed to the charity of one's choice.
Mr. Coakley, 75, of Aiken, SC died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at his residence.
A son of the late Walter A. Coakley and Lillian O. Marquess Coakley, he was born in Topeka KS. After serving in the United States Navy, he graduated from Missouri University in 1957 and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He began his life long career in the medical equipment industry, ending with Central Medical Supply Inc which he founded in 1983. He lived in several locations during his career, enjoying retirement in Des Moines IA, Savannah GA, and Bonita Springs FL before moving to Aiken SC in 2006. He has been a member of several churches in the communities in which he resided and was a member of the The Reserve Club at Woodside Plantation, Aiken, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his first wife; Bernelda J. Farchmin Coakley, who died in 1982.
He is survived by his wife; Barbara Payne Coakley, Aiken, SC, three sons; Michael M. Coakley, Urbaldale, IA, Gregg J. Coakley, Oklahoma City, OK and Matthew J. Coakley, Wahoo, NE, two sisters; Barbara Richter, Los Gatos, CA and Donna King, Boonville, MO. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.
