Mr. Harry William Gauger, 85, of Aiken, died Saturday, September 4, 2010 at UPAC-Aiken. Services will take place on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 1:30 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 961 Trail Ridge Rd. Aiken, SC 29803 or to the Child Advocacy Center- Aiken, 4231 Trolley Line Rd. Aiken, SC 29801. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center is assisting the family.
Born in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of the late Harry William Gauger and Ella Kurzholz Gauger. He served in the US Marine Corps during WW II. A long time member of Ironworkers Local #402, West Palm Beach, FL, he worked on the underground ironwork at Disney World and the Vertical Assembly Tower at Cape Kennedy. In his retirement, he used his skill as a wood worker/ carver to create intricate furniture and to assist family and friends with building things, including cradles for his grandchildren. He had lived in Port St. Lucie, FL before moving to Aiken five years ago. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife; Mary Ellen Cannon Gauger, Aiken, two daughters; Melissa Robert Sullivan Keady, Sautee, GA and Miya Doug Birely, Stuart, FL, three step children; Jack Sinopoli, Savannah, GA, Cheri Downey, St. Simons Island, GA and Gina Trujillo, Santa Fe, NM, two sisters; Muriel Williams, Statesboro, GA and Eleen Krnasky, Alpharetta, GA, five step grandchildren; Ashley Sinopoli, Cannon Trujillo, Jack Michael Trujillo, Brittany Sullivan and Shawn Birely. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
