Obituary of Wayman Bailey Corley
AIKEN, SC—Wayman Bailey Corley, age 96, entered into rest peacefully Sunday, August 26, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Corley was born July 31, 1922 in Red Hill, SC to the late Wayman Etheridge Corley and the late Bessie Bailey Corley. He had been a resident of Aiken, SC since 1946, having previously lived in Trenton, SC. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII and served in the European Theater with the 81st General Hospital. He spent his career with DuPont at SRP, where he was known as “Bill.” He was a Separations Specialist in F Area from 1954 – 1984. Mr. Corley was known for his faithful service to Levels Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school director, deacon, church treasurer, and other various committees. His family stated that he was a “Master at Life” and he enjoyed gardening, tending his pecan trees, and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Corley was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruby Moseley Corley; seven siblings, Lee (Nick) Corley, Connie Buzhardt, Pete Corley, Ross Corley, Laura Forrester, Reba Bailey, and Marcus Corley; and a grandson, Brandon Bodie.
He is survived by three children, Ann Corley Bodie (Larry), Leesville, SC, Susan Corley Jones (Jeff), Aiken, SC, and Wayman Bailey Corley Jr. (Tabatha), Aiken, SC; four grandchildren, Alaina Bodie Adams, Jennifer Jones Johnson, Jessica Leeann Bodie, and Matthew Jones; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betsy Stribling (Thomas), N. Augusta, SC.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM at Levels Baptist Church with a funeral service being held at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening following visitation. Interment will be private.
