AIKEN, SC -- Vadie L. "Vick" Smyth, son of Vadie L Smyth, Sr. and Reba Mallory Smyth Dillon was born February 29, 1932 in Ada, Oklahoma and passed on Friday, June 2, 2017. He attended Willard Grade School and Ada High School. Vick joined the Oklahoma National Guard 45th Division when he was 15 years old, serving as a sergeant, and then joined the U.S. Navy at 17, after graduating from Ada High School. He served in the Navy for 4 years during the Korean War as a radarman 2nd class participating in 7 major campaigns including: the Inchon invasion, and the Wanson action. After discharge from the Navy, Vick attended East Central University. In 1954 he joined General Electric Credit Corporation becoming branch manager of the Denver office. Vick went on to join Johnson and Johnson, and American Can Company serving as Director of Sales and Vice President of Trade Relations. Vick served as an executive Vice President at McCormick Spice Company, Borden Corporation, and Georgia Pacific Corporation. Post retirement, Vick consulted for International Banking Technologies guiding Wal-Mart Corporation in developing their first 400 in store banking installations. Vick has been married to the love of his life, Genevieve Margret Gould for 62 years. They have resided in Hot Springs, AR and then in Aiken, SC since 2002. Vick and Genny have two sons, Mark Allen Smyth of Austin, Texas, and Steven Vince Smyth of Doylestown, PA. Vick and Genny also are the proud grandparents of four wonderful grandchildren; Matthew Smyth, Emily Smyth McDonald, Lauren Smyth, and Taylor Smyth. Vick was pre-deceased by both parents and his sister Leslie Gail Smyth McCarty. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
