Drusilla Dunkin Selkirk, 93 years old and a native of Knoxville, TN, passed away to join her Heavenly Father, Friday, 22 February 2008, at Oaklawn Nursing and Rehab Center in Louisville, KY. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday February 29, 2008 at Aiken Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 6-8pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Mrs. Selkirk was the widow of Richard H Selkirk whom she married in 1946 after the end of WWII. They initially lived in New Brunswick, NJ where Richard worked at the DuPont Chemical plant in New Brunswick, NJ. She and her husband Richard relocated to Aiken, S.C. in April, 1952 where she lived until her care mandated that she move to Louisville, KY in June 2006. Transferring from the DuPont Chemical Plant in New Brunswick, NJ, she and her husband fell in love with the community surrounding Aiken and joined the Savannah River Plant family where Richard was employed. During her professional career, Mrs. Selkirk worked as an Executive Secretary in the Design Department of E R Squibb Engineering and for Professor R C Matthews, Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Later, she became an early employee of TVA, Knoxville, TN, where she remained until World War II. At this time, she left for a position with DuPont at the Alabama Ordinance Works. Upon the death of her father, Robert Swann Dunkin, October 1942 in Knoxville, TN, she returned to Tennessee to work for DuPont X-10 Operations in Oak Ridge, TN, where she met her future husband, Richard H Selkirk. Mrs. Selkirk was a gourmet cook and enjoyed entertaining for community, church member of First Presbyterian Church of Aiken, neighbors, relatives and friends. Further, she and her husband were avid pet lovers, and she rescued animals and supported the SPCA for many years. To keep their memory going, please donate to SPCA, 402 Wire Rd, Aiken, SC 29801. Mrs. Selkirk's passage was preceded by her parents, Robert Swann Dunkin and Venice Duggan Dunkin, two sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Langston and Mrs. Neleh Cox, and one brother, Mr. Robert S. Dunkin, Jr. She is survived by two nieces, Sharon C Shular of Louisville, KY and Susan Saudek of Lutherville, MD, three nephews, Dan Langston of Athens, TN, William M. Dunkin of Tall Timbers, MD, Richard Stoeppler of Atlanta, GA, a sister-in-law Bernice M. Dunkin of Tall Timbers, MD, and a brother-in-law Charles Stoeppler of Aiken, SC.
