A Mass of Christian Burial for Lt. Col. Sanroy Joseph ?Jim? LeBert, USAF, ret. will be celebrated by Fr. John Lawlor at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on Thursday October 28, 2004 at 10:00am. Pallbearers will be members of Knights of Columbus Msgr. George Lewis Smith Council #3684. Interment, with full military honors will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley. The family will receive friends at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken from 5:00pm ? 7:00pm. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Mary Help of Christian?s Catholic Church, PO Box 438 Aiken, SC 29802 or to the American Lung Association,1817 Gadsden St. Columbia, SC 29201. Lt. Col. LeBert, 85, of Aiken, died Monday, October 25, 2004 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA. A son of the late Ambroise B. and Anna LaCombe LeBert, he was born in Egan, LA and had lived in Orange, TX before moving to Aiken in 1954. He was in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel after more than thirty years of service. During his time in the service, he helped form the 9th Air force in England and served in the Asiatic Theatre, China, Burma and India. He also had worked as an electrical engineer for DuPont at the Savannah River Site, retiring in 1978 after 35 years. Jim was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, having held many local and statewide offices and was a member of Msgr. George Lewis Smith Council #3684 and Assembly #1074, Aiken. He was the epitome of a selfless, catholic gentleman and he will be long remembered for his dedication to the Church and to the Knights of Columbus. Lt. Col. LeBert is survived by his wife; Eileen Caldwell LeBert, Aiken, two sons; Robert Francis LeBert, New Ellenton, SC and Ronald Joseph LeBert, North Augusta, SC, a daughter; Sandra Eileen LeBert, Aiken, SC, a sister; Ruth Matthews, Orange, TX and six grandchildren.
