Aiken?John Bertram Humphries, 84, husband of Jacquelyn Humphries, died April 29, 2002 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A memorial service will be held 2pm Saturday, May 4, 2002 at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel. Burial will be private. Mr. Humphries was a native of Stamford, CT, and moved to Aiken in 1989. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, and a member of the Stamford Yacht Club, The Retired Officers Association, International Travel Club, the Aiken Community Playhouse, past President of the soccer team at the University of CT, and the Exchange Club in Stamford. He was an avid photographer and loved to travel the world. He retired from Excelsior as President after 40 years of service, and also served his country as a Major in the Army and the Army Reserves. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Mix Humphries. Survivors include his wife; sons, John E. Humphries, Azle, TX, Gregory S. Humphries, Trumbell, CT; daughters, Elizabeth A. Humphries, North Augusta, SC, Diane H. Conway, Shelton, CT; stepson, Benjamin Elliott, III, North Augusta, SC; step daughters, Melanie E. Congdon, North Augusta, SC, Kay Elliott, Lexington, SC; grandchildren, James F. Dick, Jeffrey J. Humphries, Chelsea Humphries, Robert Humphries, Michael Humphries, Ryan Conway, Sean Conway; step grandchildren, Andrea White, Travis White, Ramsey Chriscione, and three great grandchildren. The family wishes that memorials be made to the Carolina Cancer Center, P. O. Box 869, Aiken, SC 29802. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service
