A funeral Mass for Shirley Ann Lex will be celebrated at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 10am. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Mary Help of Christians Building Fund, PO Box 438 Aiken, SC 29802. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken is assisting the family. Mrs. Lex, 82, of Aiken, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at her residence. A daughter of the late Julius and Sophie Bettin Held, she was born in Milwaukee, WI and had lived in Wauwatosa, WI and West Allis, WI before moving to Aiken in 1999. She was retired as a secretary for the TCF Savings & Loan, Wauwatosa, WI, where she had worked for over twenty-five years. Shirley was a communicant of Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in West Allis and had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for Knights of Columbus Council #524. She devoted much of her time to volunteering at the Irving School for Mentally Disabled Students. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to all the people at Advantage Hospice for their wonderful care of Mrs. Lex. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jerome "Jerry" Lex, Aiken, a son; Tom Nancy Lex, Aiken, SC, three daughters; Susan Randy Callies, Beaver Dam, WI, Barbara Gordon Iiams, Suffolk, VA and Mary Ellen Stephen Foster, Crystal Lake, IL and a brother; James Held, Mukwonago, WI. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
