Funeral services for Mr. William Bryan Hewston, Jr. will be held at 11am on Friday, February 22, 2008 at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 21, 2008 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Hewston, 81, of Aiken, died peacefully at his home on Monday, February 18, 2008 following a brief illness.
Born in Birmingham, AL, on July 13, 1926 to the late William and Ruth Hewston. He lived several years in Charleston, SC where he spent many days of his youth enjoying the coast. He served in the Marine Corps and was a World War II veteran. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He retired from DuPont at the Savannah River Site in 1989 after thirty seven years. He was an avid gardener, history enthusiast, avid reader, and loved to listen to classical music. He always enjoyed good conversation, a good laugh and spending time with his family. He attended the United Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Bruce M. Hewston, Jr. He is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Elizabeth, children, Bruce M. Hewston, Stanley W. Carolyn Ann Hewston, both of Aiken, Bryan K. Susan Louise Hewston, Edgefield, SC, daughters, Karen Hewston, Debbi Wallace, both of Aiken, Kim Hewston, Ladson, SC, sister, Jean Simmons, Charleston, SC, thirteen grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
