Mr. George Kenneth "Ken" White, 84, of Aiken, was called home by God on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born on August 7, 1925 in Framingham, MA, he was the son of the late James and Louise Hook White. He lived in Framingham, MA, and Toronto, Canada, before moving to Aiken in 1965. When Ken turned 18, he joined the Army where he volunteered for the tank service, 10th Armored Division. He met his wife Gladys while stationed at Camp Gordon. Ken was shipped overseas in 1944 landing in LaHarne, France. He fought in World War II under General George S. Patton whom he had the privilege of meeting on three occasions during the European Campaign. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded several medals including Sharp Shooter Medals, Outstanding Service Medals, and Combat Battle Stars. Ken was a lifetime Master Mason at the Alpha Lodge A.F.& A.M. in Framingham, MA. Before becoming a member of Redds Branch Baptist Church, he was a member of Couchton Baptist Church were he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, Training Union Director, and Trustee. Ken was affectionately known as "Papa White". In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters, and one brother. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty six years, Gladys Arthur White, and his children, Janet Hankinson, Graniteville; Diane Robin Massingill, Woodruff, SC; Heidi Chris Wilbanks, Bobby Lu Ann White, both of Aiken; brother, Robert Albertine White, Aiken; sister, Dorothy Dauley, Franklin, MA; grandchildren, Bryson Hankinson, Ethan Massingill, Rachel Massingill, Bethany Massingill, John Kenneth Wilbanks, Cameron Wilbanks, Caleb White, and Elizabeth White. Papa White is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and loved ones. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 11am at Redds Branch Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Hanna officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gene Roe, Wally Roe, Travis Agner, Wayne Agner, Jr., Gary Goodwin, and Ernie Youngblood. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Redds Branch Willing Workers Sunday School Class, and the Aiken Masonic Lodge #156. The family will receive friends from 6-8 on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken.
