Dear family,
We were saddened to learn of Dick's passsing recently, and we want you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with you. We were happy to get to know Dick, Doris, Kathleen and James through our mutual association with the Aiken Choral society. Furthermore, one of us Bill had the pleasure of knowing Dick during his leadership of SRTC at SRS during the early 1990's. We will always remember Dick as a highly respected professional as well as a fine gentleman. Again, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Doris, Shirley and I were saddened to learn of Dick's passing this morning. In my limited contact with him over the last couple years on St. Mary's Building Committee, he demonstrated all the attributes others have written here. In his leadership of the committee he showed wisdom, compassion, sensitivity, and most of all, love for his God and for St. Mary's. We will miss him.

Dear Doris, Maura, and Family,
My deepest condolences on Dick's passing. I was priviledged to work for him at SRL/SRTC during his distingushed tenure as Director. These were turbulent times, and Dick was a strong and caring leader. His leadership there was an important service to our country, a tradition now carried on by Maura in her career. Doris, I served with you on the Augusta Opera Board, and Dick was a faithful supporter and patron of the Opera. We have lost a good man who made a difference in this world; he will be missed.

What can be said? Dick was a great caring person and friend. His passing definitely leaves a huge void. The Steeler reference at the vigil struck home since he saw his last Steeler game at our home. He will always be remembered and missed. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the whole family.

Dear Begley Family,
My heartfelt condolences on the passing of your patriarch. As the leader of the Savannah River Technology Center, Dr. Richard T. Begley exhibited the ideal blend of leadership qualities: knowledge, wisdom, engagement-with-workers, sense of reality, and professional decorum. In striving for solutions, Dick would welcome all thoughts and then show decisiveness in charting the best path. Known to us as "Big Bear" in relation to his brother Jim as "Little Bear," Dick's love and respect for Jim were apparent. "Check with Jim, get with Jim" he would advise. I carry many fond memories of Dick Begley.

My brother, Dick, was the epitome of a "big brother". He ceaselessly took care of all in his family. His generosity, humor, deep faith, and compassion set him apart. His humility made it possible for him to always give others credit before himself. He was my friend, my mentor, my teacher, my big brother. I will miss him terribly, but I know Mom and Dad are happy to be reunited with him once again. His loving sister, Peg

My grandfather was an extraordinary man. He was full of curiosity, generosity and above all things, love. My grandfather knew almost everything, and if he didn't, he would find it out. He never lost a thirst for knowledge or his desire to discover. He was an engineer with an engineer's brain and solving problems was his joy.
My grandfather was also a man of immense love and compassion. He genuinely cared for other people, especially his family. He spent his life caring for others and doing it with humility and love. I have never known someone with a kinder heart or a more sincere desire to help. I am in awe of his life's accomplishments, his work to improve his community, or his unabashed love.
I will truly miss him, more so than I ever knew. He has been a constant source of inspiration to me and a guide to living a whole life. It is a great loss for this world and a monumental gain for the hereafter. As much as it saddens me to have lost him, I am grateful and proud to have been able to spend my life with one God's greatest men.
