Mr. Albert R. Cato, 74, of Aiken, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at Azalea Woods Nursing Home, Aiken. Funeral services will be private and are being arranged by George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society, American Cancer Societyâ?¨P.O. Box 22718â?¨Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718
A son of the late Nathan Purvis Cato and Minnie Douglas Cato, he was born in Edgefield, SC and had lived in Aiken most of his life. Albert was a long-time over the road trucker and went by the CB handle of "Slow Poke". He also was a heavy equipment operator, handyman and an accomplished tailor, creating, curtains, clothes and bed spreads.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Henry Marshall Cato and Nathan Harold Cato and a sister, Flora Elizabeth Bedenbaugh.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Sizemore Cato, Aiken; two sons, William Cato, Bishopville, Sc and Joseph Jodie Cato, Edgefield; three daughters, Peggy Carnell Eubanks, Warrenville, Deborah James Brown, Aiken and Jennifer Alvin Brown Cato, Aiken; two brothers, William Sarah Cato, Batesburg, SC and B. F. Caroline Cato, Aiken; a sister, Annie Laura Ripley, Townsend, TN; three granddaughters, Selina Sipes, OK, Nicole Brown, Aiken and Monique Brown, Aiken a grandson, Akeem Williams and a great granddaughter, Alasia Patterson.
