Hi all,
Jill and I are sorry about the sudden loss of Don. He was an amazing craftsman and a lot of fun.
In fact, he named me Captain Hormone when I first met Jill - we've always loved that name!
We've made a donation to Portland Public Library in Don's honor.
We're sorry we're unable to be with you this evening.
Sending warm hugs and sympathy,
Ken and Jill Leigh

Many memories of "King Don", starting with working with him on the finish carpentry crew in 1986 or 1987. Him driving much slower than I as I blew by on my motorcycle to get to work on time. An evening out with Kip Shields on his boat in northern Casco Bay to investigate a local watering hole on an island. Mary and Don making regular appearances at our Christmas Eve "Eve" 23rd parties. So many more memories. Don was a bright spot for me and I appreciated his friendship. Thanks, Don. p.s. "King Don" name I gave him after a lunch featuring Hostess "King Dons". Many smiles.

Don was my professor. I returned to school for new media as a mature student in 2008.
English is my second language. He gave me extra help without let me have the feel of getting "special" treatment. Later, I had difficulties to get my previous credits transfer to SMCC, he referred someone else in the school system who could resolve the issue more effectiently.
He had more knowledge and experience than most of us and therefore his advice would always help making better decision in school or at work.
I miss him.

We have lost a great man. Don was a great teacher, mentor and friend. He was not only one of my professors but later a colleague. We were both on the SMCC New Media Committee Board. Which he recommended me for and supported. He led me and supported me in joining ST Vreeland in their web and IT department where I have been for several years. I seriously wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Don. I owe that man so much. He was always giving and kind. He was a man of many talents and skills. I also know Joan, a dear friend, and whenever they were together they always seemed to be very happy. I know Don was very happy. I miss him very very much and send my very best condolences to his family and friends.

I, too, was shocked to hear about Don's passing. We met as a division just recently and Don was as always cheerful, happy and in great spirits. It was wonderful to work with Don; SMCC will have a hole in its' spirit w/out Don. My thoughts and prayers are with Don's family & friends. --Steve Strand--

I first met Don as my instructor at SMCC. I later became a college of his at SMCC. He was a supportive instructor and when I joined SMCC as an instructor, he was very welcoming and encouraging. It is hard to believe he is no longer with us. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to Don's family and friends. Don was a true colleague and friend. We spent the last eighteen years together at SMCC. Our days were spent working with young people, solving technical problems, dreaming of the future, struggling with change, leaning on one another for comfort and advice, talking about our families or simply enjoying each other's company while catching up on the latest Red Sox or Patriots game. Through the years I came to have the greatest respect for this quiet, intelligent man. It is an honor to have known him. He will be sorely missed, but not forgotten.
In Peace,
Randy
