Alexander (Sandy) Milne III died at his home on Friday, June 7, 2013, the consequence of Multiple System Atrophy. Sandy was born on March 25, 1934 in Plainfield, NJ. He was the son of the late Alexander Milne Jr. and Eleanor M. Espe. Sandy was a graduate of the Bordentown Military Institute. He proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Yorktown. Following the completion of his naval service, Sandy joined his father's construction firm, Milne & Markert Builders in North Plainfield, NJ. He worked there for many years and became a principal of the firm. In 1977, Sandy and the love of his life, Janice, relocated to Canaan, NH where he began another construction company. Sandy retired to Hilton Head Island in 1989. There, he was active in Volunteers In Medicine. While living on Hilton Head, Sandy served in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary as part of its search-and-rescue organization. He also operated a tow boat business. Sandy and Janice moved to Aiken in August 2007. Sandy enjoyed working in his well-equipped shop. He was a craftsman of the highest order and created lovely and useful furniture items; he was the "go to" guy for fixing things that seemed irreparable. Throughout his life, Sandy established and maintained the highest standards of personal responsibility and integrity. He was a friend to many and respected by all. Sandy is survived by his wife of 36 years, Janice, of Aiken; his loving sister, Patricia M. Anderson, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; In addition, Sandy is survived by his four sons, Scott, Keith, Eric, and Daren; four grandchildren, Amber, Serena, Alec, and Aidan, all of whom live in central New Jersey. He is also survived by several cousins and his beloved dog, Charlie. The family wishes to thank University Home Health Services for their extraordinary services provided during Sandy's illness and special thanks to "Nurse Nancy" Wates for her support, friendship and excellent care she gave. In accordance with Sandy's wishes, no service will be held. Anyone desiring to do so may make a memorial contribution to the charity of his or her choice.
