A Requiem Mass for John Joseph Connelly will be celebrated on Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Interment, with military honors will take place on Friday at 2pm at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC. There will be a wake service at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken on Wednesday, November 21st from 6pm until 8pm.
Mr. Connelly, of Aiken, died suddenly at his residence on Sunday, November 18, 2012
John was born in Boston, MA and settled in Aiken in 1988. He was the son of the late John B. and Dorothy A. Connelly.
He was commissioned in the United States Air Force in 1966, served 4 years active duty and later served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard retiring from military service as a Lt. Col.
John worked as Principal Quality Assurance Engineer for the Savannah River National Laboratory at the Savannah River Site. He was a proud member of the National Management Association and ASME. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed photography.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline F. Connelly, Aiken; a son, James B. Ruth Connelly, Tyrone, GA; a daughter, Kristine A.David O'Connor, Levittown, PA; two sisters, Kathleen Daniel Murray, NY, NY and Dorothy Connelly, Staten Island, NY and four grandchildren, Dorothy O'Connor, Thomas O'Connor, Lorren Connelly and Jack Connelly.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or National Stroke Association.
