Obituary of Paul Gene Cude
Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. Gene "Paul" Cude, 75, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in 1934 in Old Hickory, TN, the son of John Andrew Cude and Vivian Clarita Denton Cude, Mr. Cude moved with his family to Aiken, SC in 1953 when his father transferred to the work at the Savannah River Plant.
Mr. Cude was in the first graduating class of Aiken High School at its Rutland Drive location. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving active duty both domestically and overseas in Germany. After faithfully serving his country, he returned home and worked at the Savannah River Plant as a technical illustrator for 15 years before starting the first of several successful business ventures. His first business, Aiken Bait & Tackle, was originally located in Six Points and later moved to Park Avenue and operated under the name of Surplus City. Mr. Cude also started a glove manufacturing business, Gator Glove Company, producing PVC coated gloves, before Parkinson's disease forced him to retire from the business he so loved.
Mr. Cude was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a beloved friend to many. He was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout his life. He was a member of Aiken First Baptist Church, a member of the Aiken Jaycees, a charter member of the Aiken Sertoma Club, a member of the Aiken Chamber of Commerce, and a charter member of the USCA Pacers Club. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Jean Salley Cude, two sons, Gene Paul Cude, Jr. and John Clinton Cude, and two granddaughters, Makenzie Cude and Ashley Cude.
