A Mass of Christian Burial for Dr. William John ?Bill? Jacober will be celebrated Friday, September 10, 2004 at 10 AM at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken, SC. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Aiken, SC. A vigil service will be held Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 6 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC with the family receiving friends following the vigil service until 8 PM. Dr. Jacober, 87, of Aiken, SC, husband of sixty-one years to the late Catherine ?Kitty? Jacober, died Wednesday, night, September 1, 2004. Born in Newark, NJ, a son of the late William and Caroline Rotky Jacober, Bill graduated from Union College, Schenectady, NY in 1938 and received his Doctorate in Chemistry from Brown University, Providence, RI in 1942. Dr. Jacober began his career with E.I. DuPont in 1942 and retired in 1983 after forty-one years of service. While at the Savannah River Plant he worked in the Reactor Technology Chemical Processing Department and continued as a consultant following his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and did volunteer work at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic School where he was a former president of the P.T.A. Bill had many hobbies that included boating and spending time with his family at his home on Lake Hartwell. He had formerly been involved with his son in the Boy Scouts of America and the United States Power Squadron. A son, William J. Jacober, Jr. and his wife, Sheridan, Summerville, SC; daughters, Theresa Catherine Houle and her husband, Thomas H., Downingtown, PA, and Mary Elizabeth Joswig and her husband, Dr. Bill, Oceanside, CA; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, survive. In addition to his wife and parents, a daughter, Margaret Papile, grandson, Michael Jacober, sister, Helen Moreland, and brother, Edward Jacober, preceded him in death. The family has asked that memorials in memory of Dr. Jacober be made to St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic School, 118 York St., SE, Aiken, SC 29801.
