William Bill Nash Mattocks, Jr., 73, of Aiken, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, December 26, 2011 at 10:30am at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue, SW, in Aiken, SC with the Rev. Jim Murray officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Bethany Cemetery, Aiken, SC
The son of the late Christine Brown Mattocks and William Nash Mattocks, Sr., he was born on May 23, 1938 in Sumter, SC, Bill graduated from Aiken High School and attended USCA. He served in the US Army Reserve, including active duty during the Berlin Wall Crisis in 1961. He was an employee of the Savannah River Site from 1967 until he retired in 2004.
Bill was a charter member of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society and was an avid guitar, gun and knife collector.
Bill is survived by a sister, Elizabeth M. Bancroft John, and a brother, H. Herbert Mattocks Janet, both of Aiken. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Charles Nash Johnston, Rachel Johnston Hanisee, Julianne Bancroft Cheek, Todd Mattocks, Mimi Soule, Matthew A. Mattocks, Amanda Blackmon, Misty Cooper and Laura Lott and nine great nieces and nephews.
Bill was a very generous and thoughtful man and was loved by his family and many friends. His family would like to thank the staff at Mattie C. Hall, Unihealth-PAC and his faithful friends, Henry Wynn and Joe DeHart for their care and constant friendship.
