Funeral services for Mr. Andrew Jack Burnham will be Friday, May 25, 2007 at 4pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue, SW, Aiken, with Rev. Dr. George Howle officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to St John's United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry Street, NW, Aiken, SC, 29801. Mr. Burnham, 87, of Aiken, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center. A son of the late Otha and Magnolia Gideon Burnham, he was born in Atlanta, GA. A veteran of World War II, he served in Europe and was the fire Chief at Orley Airport in Paris for two years following the war. After returning home, he worked for twenty seven years for the Atlanta Fire Department, where he was credited with saving thirteen children in the Winecoff Fire on December 1, 1949. He retired to the town of Houston, GA where he served as a Boy Scout Leader. He moved to Aiken in 1983. Jack has been a Mason for forty nine years. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and the Aiken Masonic Lodge #156. Jack tried to always look out for people and treat them fairly. In addition to his parents, Mr. Burnham was predeceased by his stepson, Paul Mashburn. He is survived by his wife, Frances Frye Burnham, stepson, James Lynn Mashburn, Kennesaw, GA, brother, W.O Burnham, Dawsonville, GA , sister, Evelyn David Smith, step grandchildren, Emily Mashburn, Christopher Mashburn, Paulla Rodney Massie, step great grandchildren, Garrett Massie, and Caroline Massie.
