A memorial service for Mr. John R. Foster, Sr. will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 6pm at 426 Laurens St. SW with Pastor McCain officiating. Friends are invited to visit the family at the residence from 10am until the time of the service. Memorial donations, directed to the family, would be appreciated. Mr. Foster, 75, of Aiken, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at his residence. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW is assisting the family.
A son of the late Jesse James Foster and Leila Pearl Clark Foster, he was born in Bath, SC and had lived in Arkansas and Illinois before moving back to Aiken County nineteen years ago. He was a retired maintenance supervisor at the ASCO Switch Co. John was a member of Last Event Church and he volunteered at Christ Central Mission, where he was described as having a "passion to give". He was also known as "Mr. Bob" and "John Bob"
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his wife, Nellie McMullen Foster and a son, Tommy Strait.
He is survived by his children; James Strait, Beech Island, Regina Robinson, Rockford, IL, Kathy Jones, Kellyville, OK, John R. Foster, Jr., Ashville, NC, George Foster, Windsor, Donald Foster, Ellendale, ND, Ronald Foster, Aiken, Leila Clanton, Edgefield, SC, Debbie Foster, Tulsa, OK and Bobby Strait, Warrenville, SC. He is also survived by two sisters; Libby Watts, Langley, SC and Betty Furchess, Windham, CT, thirty five grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and his best friend of 19 years, Queen Esther Mathis, Aiken.
