Funeral services for Mr. Curtis Haskell Chavis will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 10am at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW, Aiken. Pallbearers will be Ronald Versch, Tracy Baughman, Kenneth Baughman, Mitchell Griffin, Carter McCracken and Wayne Bryant. Graveside funeral services will be held later that day at 3pm at Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca, SC. Visitation will be Wed evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Chavis, 62, of Ridge Spring, died March 20, 2007 at his residence. A son of the late Curtis and Lena Jane Chavis, he was born in Orangeburg, SC and had lived in Oconee County before moving to Ridge Spring in 2005. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed at the West Point Stevens Cotton Mill in Clemson, SC. He was also part time employed by Ridge Builders, Ridge Spring. He was an avid fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a son, Curtis Clifton Chavis and a daughter, Stella Darlene Chavis. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane McCracken Chavis; three daughters, Darlene Medlin, Ridge Spring, Angie Chavis, Clemson and Clarissa Schmidt, Beech Island; a step-son, Joey Sanford, Mountain Rest and a step-daughter, Melissa Jane Smith, Liberty. He is also survived by a brother, Basil Chavis, Guyton, GA and four sisters; Hazel Baughman, Ridge Spring, Lena Mae Smith, Wagener, Minnie Rae Baughman, Ringold, GA and Essie Adams, Aiken; a granddaughter and four step-grandchildren.
