Mr. Robert Joseph DeMeester, 89, of Aiken, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2013 at Cumberland Village, surrounded by his 2 daughters. A Celebration of Life for Mr. DeMeester, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2013, at Cumberland Village. Born in Los Angeles, the oldest son of four children, to the late Joseph & Mildred Willis DeMeester. Mr. DeMeester was a graduate of San Bernandino High School, where he was a track star and quarterback for the high school team. A US Navy Veteran of WW II, Mr. DeMeester returned home and married the love of his life, on April 6, 1947. He worked for his father in food distribution, then went on to supervisor and eventually manage Southern California Company, Laura Scudder Snack Foods. After retiring to Aiken in 2001, he enjoyed wood working and crafting, supplying the chain store Michaels with wooden cut outs. In 2006, he and his loving wife Colleen moved to Cumberland Village, where they lived until her passing in May of 2013. Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Nelson and Kimberly Moyer and his four grandchildren, Tracey Ferguson, Loni Lewis, Kyle Nelson and Diana Nelson; and a brother, Donald DeMeester.
