Obituary of Carolyn Haltiwanger Sedell
ROCKWOOD, TN—Carolyn Haltiwanger Sedell, age 89, entered into rest peacefully on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.
Mrs. Sedell was born January 18, 1929 in Columbia, SC to the late Henry Luther Haltiwanger and the late Leora Elverta Haltiwanger. She earned BS degrees in Marketing and Education from USC. She taught 7th-8th grade at Kennedy Middle School and Aiken Junior High, where she was also the girls’ basketball coach. The Aiken Junior High team went on to win the State Championship in 1967. Mrs. Sedell made Aiken, SC her home in 1953, where she raised her family and was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing both golf and bridge.
In addition to her parents, Mrs.Sedell was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Elwood Sedell; and a brother, Douglas Haltiwanger.
Survivors include a son, John E. Sedell (Regina), N. Augusta, SC; three daughters, Janet S. Utsey (Tommy), Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jane S. Logan (Michael), Rockwood, TN, and Leslie S. Soutiere (Wayne), West Union, SC; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the new St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 138 Fairfield St., Aiken, SC 29801, with the Very Reverend Gregory Wilson as celebrant. Final Prayers and Commendation will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
A prayer service will be said at 6:15 PM on Friday, May 11, 2018 at George Funeral Home with visitation following until 8:00 PM.
