Obituary of Raymond Garwood

Funeral services for Mr. Raymond Garwood will take place on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11am at the chapel of George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW, Aiken, SC, with Rev. Roy Kiser officiating. Entombment, with military honors, will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 10:30am until the time of the service.
Mr. Garwood, 93, of Falls Church, VA, died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA.
Born in Darwin, IL, he was the son of the late Walter Garwood and Ruth Willfond Garwood. He lived in Aiken County, SC for twelve years, moving to Falls Church, VA two and a half years ago. He had previously lived in Ft. Worth, TX.
Mr. Garwood served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II and then in the Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Col. He was an industrial engineer, specializing in quality control at General Dynamics in Ft. Worth, TX where he and his wife were members of Birchman Baptist Church for over forty years. He served that church as a Deacon, Director of the Training Union, and a Sunday School teacher. He was a proud graduate of Texas Christian University. While living in Aiken County, he attended First Baptist Church of North Augusta
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Miriam Eppright Garwood who died in 2000.
He is survived by two daughters; Judith King, Falls Church, VA and Mary Lynn Staley, North Augusta, SC, a sister, Maxine Carper, Auburn, IN, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
