Obituary of Marvin James Brown

AIKEN, SC- Marvin James Brown, age 73, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 in the comfort of his home. Mr. Brown was born October 18, 1942 in Aiken, SC to the late James Jesse Brown and the late Ruth Gordon Brown. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War and retired after 27 years with the Kimberly Clark Corporation. Mr. Brown was a life-long resident of Aiken, SC, except during his time overseas in the service, a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, a 4th degree Knights of Columbus and a member of the American Legion Post 212, the Royal Aikenites, and Woodside Plantation Country Club. He loved his wife dearly, enjoyed cruising, and most of all loved his family and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a twin brother, Melvin Jesse Brown, and a grandson, Scott James. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary Ella Brown; two daughters, Margo Thomas (Edwin), Powder Springs, GA and Marcelle James (Anthony), Aiken, SC; a son, Marvin Brown, Jr. (Karla), Aiken, SC; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Bryan, and Lucius Brown, Lillian, Mary, and Sylvia Thomas, and Ella Paige James; and five sisters, Doreatha Brown, Geneva Dawkins, Shirley Brown, Geraldine Williams, and Cassandra Holloway. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the old St. Mary's Help of Christians Catholic Church, Park Ave., with the Father Gregory Wilson as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military honors. Pallbearers will be Everett Chandler, Wilson Clyburn, Michael Hall, Sherrod McKenzie, Travis Sullivan, and Brian Parks. A prayer vigil for the deceased will be held this Wednesday evening at 6 PM with visitation to follow until 8 PM at the Historic George Funeral Home, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803.649.6234).
