Funeral Services for Mrs. Josie Stallings Hicks will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 2:00pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW with Pastor Gene Brown officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until the time of the service.
Mrs. Hicks, 81, of Aiken, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009 in Charleston, SC.
A daughter of the late Charles A. and Leona Warren Stallings, she was born and in Charleston and traveled with the military, spending several years in Arizona before retiring to Aiken in 1972. She was a 1947 Graduate of North Charleston High School and was a member of the Eastern Star. She dedicated a good part of her life to being a caregiver for those in need, especially for her mother. She was also well known as a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and was a serious Atlanta Braves fan.
She retired in 1971, with twenty-four years of service from the US Army as a Sgt, First Class with the USA MEDDAC Unit, based in Ft. Huachuca, AZ,
In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Sgt. Maj. John Edwards Hicks U.S. Army, ret who died in 2001 and five siblings; Elise Blume, Charles Jack Stallings, Joe Warren Stallings, Johnnie Alvin Stallings and Carl Stallings. Mrs. Hicks is survived by a sister; Katherine Burn, North Charleston, SC, two brothers; Bubba Leonard Stallings, North Charleston, SC and Russell E. Stallings, Amite, LA, several nieces and nephews and her baby dog, Cindi.
