Richard Owen Jr., 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2017. He is survived by Ann Paxton Owen, his beloved wife of 29 years; his children, John Owen (Karen), Pam May (Dean), and step-son Doug Brown (Rebecca); his sister Bertha Jane Dunavant (Jack); grandchildren, Andy Owen, Jack Owen, Jenny Owen, Ryan May, Sarah Nicole May, Matthew Jordan, Reid Brown, Annabelle Brown, Wilkes Brown and Ivy Brown, and a son-in-law, Tom Jordan. Mr. Owen was born January 6, 1931 in South Boston, Virginia to the late Richard Owen Sr. and the late Sarah Wade Owen. He was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired as a Sales Executive with IBM after 33 years of service, having been located in many different cities , one of his favorite, being London, England. Mr. Owen and his wife Ann loved to entertain family and friends; he enjoyed reading, games, puzzles and together with Ann, enjoyed their beautiful gardens. He and Ann enjoyed traveling the world, with his favorite city being " San Francisco by the Bay." An avid runner, he participated in the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta for 25 consecutive years. He will be remembered as a stylish and charming Southern gentleman and a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his parents, Mr. Owen is preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Dutrow and Sarah Wade Owen and a step-daughter, Loren Brown Jordan. A memorial service will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 16, at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with Father Grant Wiseman officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Stevenson-McClellend Parish Hall. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
