Funeral services for Bill Dempsey, 86, of Greenville, formerly Aiken, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Chapel of GEORGE FUNERAL HOME. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Howard. Burial will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Redd's Branch Baptist Church, 390 Redd's Branch Road, Aiken, SC 29801.
Mr. Dempsey, widower of Mary Elizabeth Dempsey, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Fayetteville, W. Virginia, he was a son of the the late Clyde and Marietta Holly Dempsey. He was a US Army WWII Veteran. A former coal miner from Fayetteville, he moved to Aiken in 1953. He retired as a supervisor from E.I. DuPont after 30 years of service. Mr. Dempsey loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed wood working and was a member of the VFW, in New Ellenton. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Dempsey.
Survivors include sons, Tom Dempsey (Jennie) of Simpsonville and Andy Dempsey of Aiken; a brother, Jerry Dempsey of Youngstown, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, Tracey Jean Dempsey of Fitzgerald, Georgia, Lisa Marie Dempsey of Aiken, Thomas J. Dempsey of Simpsonville and Elizabeth Dempsey of Simpsonsville; 4 great-grandchildren, Allana, Christopher, Sandra & Obadiah; and a daughter-in-law, Camille Dempsey of Mauldin.
