Obituary of Ted Giard

A Requiem Mass for Mr. Edward Henry "Ted" Giard, Sr. will be celebrated on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at 10am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Aiken. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, 6-8pm, with a vigil service taking place at 6pm at the GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER, 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken.
Mr. Giard, 82, of Aiken, died Sunday, July 15, 2012 at his residence.
A son of the late Edward H. Giard, and Margaret Lawlor Giard, he was born in Pawtucket, RI and had lived in the Aiken area since the early 1960's. He and his wife of 50 years were married by Msgr. George Lewis Smith at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in 1962 .
As a graduate from St. Joseph High School, Berthierville, Quebec, Canada in 1948, he then earned a B.S. degree in Textile Chemistry at the Lowell Technological Institute, Lowell, MA in 1952. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Ted was the plant superintendant of the Clearwater Finishing Plant, United Merchants, until it closed in 1988. He then became the plant superintendant at King Finishing, Spartan Mills, Statesboro, GA, until he retired in 1998 and returned to Aiken.
Ted was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and was active with the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Perpetual Adoration. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3684, Aiken. He was also a charter member of the Midland Valley Country Club and in his later years enjoyed playing golf at The Aiken Golf Club. Always the competitor, he loved winning at poker. All enjoyed his humor. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, Grampy and friend. Go Irish!
In Addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by a brother, Donald Giard.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Agnes Schall "Aggie" Giard, Aiken; a son, Edward H. Heidi Giard, Jr., Severna Park, MD; three daughters, Mary Scott Garvin, Lexington, SC, Agnes Chris Hobson, Aiken, SC and Lynn Len Barlik, Sandy Springs, GA; a brother, Kenneth Girard, Henderson, NC and a sister, Mary Lou Moore, Durham, NC. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren.
