A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Carol Ann Simmons will be celebrated on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 10am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. A wake service will take place on Thursday, Jan 7th at 7pm at the church. The family will then receive friends until 9pm. Memorial donations may be directed to the "Karen Franklin Gastric Cancer Memorial Fund", 7700 Broadway # 104 Box 215, San Antonio, TX 78209. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW is assisting the family. Mrs. Simmons, 73, of Aiken, SC, died Sunday, January 3, 2009 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Before moving to Aiken in 1999, she had formerly lived in St. Louis, MO, Little Rock, AK and Berkeley Heights, NJ. Carol will forever be remembered as a kind, warm, thoughtful and generous person. She was a devoted and loving wife for nearly fifty years to her best friend and partner, Dennis. She was an incredible mother to her only son, Joseph. She adored her nieces and nephews and treated her great nieces and great nephews like the grandchildren she had always wanted. Her friendships were deeply rooted and special to her. She made everyone she met along the way feel special. Her laugh was infectious. She was the ultimate hostess. Carol was stylish and sophisticated, yet completely unpretentious and down to earth. She had a zest for life, loved a good board or card game and was always looking forward to the next party. She was really looking forward to dancing at her son's upcoming wedding in May and welcoming her future daughter-in-law, Sharon, and Sharon's daughter, Mariclaire, into her family. She was gentle, gracious, sincere and deeply committed to her Catholic faith and devotion to Our Blessed Mother. She is currently dancing with angels and preparing a place for all of those who are left behind to mourn her loss. Those lucky enough to have known her will continue to celebrate her smile, her laugh and her life until we see her again. She is survived by her husband Dennis Simmons, Aiken, SC, her son; Joe Simmons, Houston, TX, and his fiancé, Sharon O'Connor and her daughter Mariclaire Rebman, St. Louis, MO. She was also survived by her sister in law, Mary Ellen Campbell, St. Louis, MO.
