A memorial service for Mrs. Joette Smith Hallman will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 7 PM at George Funeral Homes, Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC, with Pastor Manuel Gunter officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 PM until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Hallman, 72, of Aiken, SC, died Sunday, afternoon, June 5, 2005 at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. Born in Valdese, NC, a daughter of the late Ervin and Beatrice Kivett Smith, she had been a resident of Aiken, SC since 1960 and retired from World Book Encyclopedia as an Executive Assistant. She was a member of the Valdese First Baptist Church. Mrs. Hallman enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and will be remembered by many New Ellenton youths from her many years she spent at New Ellenton Junior High. She is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Philbert Lewis Hallman, sons, Johnnie Ervin Hallman, Judy Easley, SC, Richard Lewis Hallman, Wendy Aiken, SC, and Daniel ?Dan? Eugene Hallman, Bobbie Palushock Ridge Spring, SC; sisters, Sally Baird, Wise, VA and Mary Ann Ahearn, Monroe, NC; brother, Harlan Eugene Smith, Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Charity Yonce, Richard Lewis Hallman, Jr., Christopher Robert Hallman, Scott James Hallman, and Brittany Danielle Hallman, and great-grandchildren, Robert Merckle and Zachary Yonce.
