Funeral services for Mrs. Doris K. Spires will be held on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 3pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave, SW, Aiken with Pastor Phillip Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Vaucluse Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Spires, William Dyches, Jr., Scott Dyches, David Husky, Glen Spradley, and Mike Key. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Baxter and Billy Widener. The family will receive friends tonight Wednesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Spires, 82, of Bath, died Monday, September 20, 2010 surrounded by her family at the home of her son.
A lifelong resident of Aiken County, she was the daughter of the late Euta and Mary Riles Key. She attended Cedar Creek Church. Doris enjoyed gardening, spending time with her family, traveling to the mountains and Hilton Head. She retired from King Mill after thirty years of service. Doris also worked in her daughter's salon.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Marvin Spires, Sr., son, Ernest Lavern Spires, sisters, Catherine Nemeth, Sara Widener, and brother, Ernest Key. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann William Dyches, Aiken; son, Marvin Ronald Spires, Jr, Aiken; nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and a special friend, Dot Mosley.
