I worked for Vernon for several years at his various auto upholstery shops. He was a wonderful man who taught me so much about the business and life in general! He will be remembered as a "mentor" to many of us who had the pleasure of knowing him.
My sympathies to the family of a grand man.
For all the guidance he lent my son; the continuing friendship he maintained after the business relationship ended; the gifts he shared to all those who knew him; for the heart; Vernon will be missed!

I recall how he chuckled as he helped me chase an unruly horse around his property in the hopes of enhancing the animal's "new" training program. Ha!
And the goats - the newborn twins that kept arriving and how he teased me as I strived to feed each one. Oh, the trips to the grocery store to buy goat's milk...
The appreciation I felt at all the knowledge he shared with each of his employees - my brother included.
And his spirit - what a great spirit he had when times got rough.
He will be missed deeply!
I used to live in Aiken. I remember one time when I was having a very bad day and then I drove past your father and there he was waving as usual. It seemed to put things in perspective for me and I immediately was in a better frame of mind. I looked forward to seeing him in the mornings and found myself missing him if he wasn\'t there. I did stop one time and talk with him and gave him some Girl Scout cookies as a little token of appreciation and friendship. What a nice man who brought a little bit of sunshine to everyone.
