Graveside services for Mr. Renford Martin Shanks, will be held Saturday September 29, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Bethany Cemetery with Rev. Charlie Kelley, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, September 28, 2007 from 6 to8pm at George Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue, SW, Aiken. Memorial contributions may be directed to Research at the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia SC 29210-1790. Mr. Shanks, 62, of Aiken, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at the VA Medical Center, Augusta. Son of the late James Powers and Dorothy Scott Shanks, he was born and raised in Aiken. He attended Aiken High School and graduated in 1962. He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict He also attended Bolens Business University and Augusta State University. He married Jeanne Hurst on December 8, 1968. He loved history, fishing, gardening, and watching golf. He worked in retail sales for Macys, and had previously worked for the United Merchants in Bath, SC. Mr. Shanks is survived by his wife, Jeanne Hurst Shanks, daughters, Amy Jim, Jr. Thoma , Greenville, SC, Laura Matthew Cyckowski, Saugus, MA, brother; Jim Shanks, Aiken, seven grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
