A memorial service for Mrs. Helen Thacker Apperson will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 1pm at Aiken's First Baptist Church with Dr. Rev. Fred Andrea, III officiating. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Water Project, PO Box 3157 Aiken, SC 29802, The Cumbee Center, PO Box 1293 Aiken, SC 29802 or The St. Kizito Scholarship Fund, C/O The Diocese of Cleveland 1404 East 9th St. Cleveland, OH 44114. George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Ave. SW is assisting the family. Mrs. Apperson, 84, of Aiken, died Wednesday at Shadow Oaks Assisted Living Center in Aiken. Born in Lynchburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Henry Aubrey Thacker and Gertrude Agnes Elliott Thacker. Mrs. Apperson was an active member of Aiken's First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She was also a local, math tutor. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband, Courtney E. Apperson, Sr., who died in 1994. She is survived by her son, Courtney E. Apperson, Jr. and his wife Pam, Aiken; a daughter, Carolyn Apperson-Hansen, Shaker Heights, OH; three granddaughters, Lori Gourdin and her husband, Peter, Seneca, SC, Joy Apperson, Seneca and Kirsten Hansen, Columbus, OH. She is also survived by five great grandchildren.
