His smile was glorious -his nature, gentle.Again I am very sad about this-I hoped that he would keep smiling-who am I to doubt that he isn't now? He was my friend, and I will miss him.

I always liked to see and talk to Steven when I would be at his house hanging out with his older brother Woody. What I remember most about him from those times I hadn't seen him in many years was that sweet smile many others have described in their condolences, and his interest in music. If memory serves, the first time I ever heard groups like Deep Purple and Led Zepplin was when he played their records. Whenever "Smoke on the Water" comes on the radio, I always picture Steven playing it, and trying to explain to my unhip ears how good a song it was.
My heart is with all of his family and friends.

Steve and I go back to Kennedy Jr. High. Whenever I see him we would always talk about our 7th grade band class. In recent years I would run into him at the grocery store and he was always the same person he was when we were in the 7th grade. He never forgot anyone and he was always ready with conversation. I'm going to miss him.

Dear Woody,
So sorry to hear about Steve. I am glad Tom was able to be with you and your family these past few days, but especially glad that he was able to see Steve several times in the hospital over the last few weeks. Tom was always hoping that he would recover. I remember one time when Tom and I were in Aiken at Whiskey Junction and Steve was there. What a nice guy. I remember seeing you on several visits to Aiken as well. Anyway, I just couldn't let this go without sharing my memories of your brother. I hope all is going better for y'all. Believe me, I know, these things take time! Sorry I couldn't be there with Tom, but I had to stay back with our girls. Our thoughts and prayers have certainly been with y'all through this very difficult time.
Take care, we love y'all!

Dear Woody, Gaye, and Julie - I was out of the country and didn't hear of Steve's passing until I returned which was the day of your service for him. I couldn't get there in time. I spoke with my brother, Tom, many times, after he told me Steve was sick and I was staying in touch, hoping to hear good news of his recovery. I wanted so much to come and be there at his service, to offer support to ya'll and to share in celebrating Steve's life, sharing the wonderful memories that we all had with your brother. Remembering Steve from our very earliest days of high school and Gem Lakes, I'm struck by how he never seemed to change over the years - he always had that same smile, the same warmth, the same great character. Believe it or not, I always looked forward to seeing him in Aiken whenever I was home - seeing your oldest friends always makes it feel like home and Steve made it seem like home never changed. I will miss him and I can only imagine how much you all will miss him. I am so sorry for your pain and hope you know my thoughts are with ya'll. I'm happy that so many have shared with you how much of a difference Shady made in their lives and I only wish that Steve could've known how many people cared about him and of the obvious impact he had on everyone in the very short time he was here. I wish he could've known how very much he will be missed. I don't know that he ever really understood that - Your brother, as you know, was a super guy, with a lot of friends, who made a difference just by being. How many of us could say that? I'm glad I was one of the lucky ones to have known him. Please take care - you're very much in my thoughts. - Nancy P.S. I love the picture of him that you chose to put on this site - it shows his trademark smile and really captures his warmth and it looks like he was having a really good time which is how I will always remember him.

Steve was part of our "gang" back in the days mid 1970s when we had a local southern rock band called Aetilla. I remember him as a regular fixture in Chris Hager's basement in Gem Lakes back in the time of our gleeful youth. I hadn't seen Steve in over 20 years but crossed paths with him about 2 years ago at the little Oyster club on Whiskey Road. He had an old Aetilla photograph of the original 5 band members. Steve gave a copy to Ashley Foreman and Ashley had it blown up into a poster. Evertime I see that poster now it will conjure up a memory of Steve Brady. He was a truly nice guy. I'm saddened to hear of his premature passing.
