A graveside service for Mr. Charles L. Thames will be held Friday, March 3, 2006 at 11:00 AM in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery, New Ellenton, SC with Pastor Brian Gilmer officiating. New Ellenton Lodge #389 will accord masonic rites and the United States Navy Honor Guard will accord military honors. The family will receive friends Friday, March 3, 2006 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
Mr. Thames, 76, of Aiken, SC, died Tuesday morning, February 28, 2006 at his home.
Born in Old Ellenton, SC, he was a son of the late Charlie Vincent and Rebecca Mixson Thames. A veteran of the Korean War, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Charles retired from Duke Power Company in 1989 after twenty-nine years of service as a Health Physics Manager. He was a charter member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he was formerly the finance chairman, was a lifetime member of Keowee Lodge #79 AFM and was also a 32 degree mason.
He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Carole Owens Thames, sons, Dr. Kenton Thames, Amy Fort Lawn, SC, Ryan Thames, Rock Hill, SC, Camron Thames, Karin Lexington, NC, and Dean Thames, Samantha Aiken, SC; sisters, Katherine Siple, Jimmy Augusta, GA, Hazel Eaves, Aiken, SC, Irma Siegler, Myrel Augusta, GA, and Gladys Britt, Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Amber, Nicholas, Andrea, Christina, Alli, Murray, Austin, Caroline, Lauren, and Tyler, and a great-grandchild, Cody.
The family has requested that memorials be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Leap of Faith Fund, 600 Main St., SW, New Ellenton, SC 29809.
