Mrs. Dora "Dede" DiSilvestro, 80, of Aiken, entered into rest on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Trinity Hospital in Augusta, GA after a long battle with breast cancer.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 9:30am at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Aiken. Interment will be private at a later date. The family will receive friends on Monday evening, from 6-8pm, with a vigil prayer service taking place at 7pm at GEORGE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken.
Dede was born and raised in Shelbyville, Kentucky. She is survived by her husband Michael DiSilvestro; five sons, Mark Greene; John (Dana) Greene; Michael (Debbie) DiSilvestro; Christopher (Betty Ann) DiSilvestro; John (Kathleen) DiSilvestro; daughter, Simone (James) Herrick; brother, Eugene "Buddy" Sanford & several nieces & nephews.
Dede had a degree in Chemistry and Nursing as an RN, having worked with Dr. Lansing's Open Heart Surgery Team in Louisville, KY. Dede was a gourmet cook, avid golfer, master gardener and achieved a lifetime goal by sky diving from 10,000 feet at age 77.
