A memorial service for Mr. James William Ward will take place at 11am on Friday, June 1, 2012 at St. John United Methodist Church, Aiken. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in the church parlor.
Mr. Ward, 89, of Aiken, died Monday, May 28, 2012 at his residence.
A son of the late William Dent Ward and Blanch Stelzenmuller Ward, he was born in Fairhope, AL and had lived in Aiken since 1952. He served in the US Army during WWII and survived the Battle of The Bulge in the Ardennes Forest.
Before retiring in the late 1980's he had been an engineer at E I DuPont at the Savannah River Site.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, George Ward & Gerald Ward; two sisters, Alice Hamlin and Ellen Grey Simpkins and a grandson, Douglas Ward.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lenore L. Ward, Aiken; three sons, Jamie Melanie Ward, Barboursville, WV, Mark Tina Ward, Chanute, KS and Roger Mary Ward, Aiken; two brothers, Cecil Arden Ward, Fairhope, AL and Richard Anne Ward, Fairhope, AL; two sisters, Grace Cornelius Giles, Florence, AL and Frances Belcher, Ft. Meade, FL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one, great granddaughter, all of whom he loved very much.
