Obituary of Edward Hammond Keel
AIKEN, SC—The Rev. Edward Hammond Keel Jr., age 81, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Rev. Keel was born July 27, 1937 in Aiken, SC to the late Edward Hammond Keel Sr. and the late Wilma Weeks Keel. He was a life-long resident of Aiken, except for his time in college. Rev. Keel received his Bachelor’s Degree from Erskine College and his Master’s Degree from The University of South Carolina. He spent his career as an educator in the Aiken County Public School System at Jackson High School and Silver Bluff High School from 1963 to 1992. Rev. Keel was called to the ministry and served as a priest serving at All Saints Anglican Church in Aiken, SC and St. Luke Anglican Church in Augusta, GA.
Rev. Keel truly loved books, reading, and music. He enjoyed studying to his last day. His true passions were for his beloved wife and cats.
In addition to his parents, Rev. Keel was preceded in death by a brother, Tillman “Tim” Hayes Keel.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jane Keel; a sister, Mary Johnson (Hank), Boone, NC; a brother, William David Keel (Carol), Aiken, SC; a nephew of Aiken, SC, William Bell (Laura); other dearly loved nieces and nephews; and four fur children.
Friends may call Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at George Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday, August 20, 2018 at All Saints Anglican Church with Father George Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery.
