Obituary of Thomas C. Reed

A Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas C. Reed will be celebrated on Tuesday July 2, 2002, 4pm, at St. Mary?s Help of Christians Church, Aiken with Father Ed Fitzgerald celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Aiken. Pallbearers will be Perry Stanley, John Stanley, T.J. Stanley, Craig Stanley, Austin Harrell and Tony Zionkowski. Honorary pallbearers will be his golf buddies. A vigil service will be conducted on Monday evening, at 6pm at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave. SW, Aiken. Visitation will follow until 8pm. Mr. Reed, 92, of Aiken, died Thursday, June 27th at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A son of the late Calvin Austin and Emma Thompson Reed, he was born in Bucyrus, KS and had lived in Wichita before moving to Aiken in 1989. Mr. Reed served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and retired in 1972 as a salesman for Southwestern Bell in Wichita. While in KS, he was a communicant of All Saints Catholic Church and a member of McDonald Park Golf Cub. Mr. Reed also was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Aiken and a member of Woodside Plantation Golf Club. An avid golfer, Mr. Reed played almost daily until the age of 89 and played a round of golf on his 90th birthday. He is pre-deceased by a brother, William Reed and his wife, Barbara Bell Reed, who died February 10, 2002. His daughter, Mrs. Sharon and Gary Stanley, Aiken, five grandchildren; Perry and Kelly Stanley, Beth and Wade North, Susie and Peter Zionkowski, John Stanley and T.J. Stanley and 7 great grandchildren, Craig Stanley, Lori Stanley, Amber Harrell, Austin Harrell, Taylor Harrell, Lucie Zionkowski and Lily Zionkowski survive him. Memorial donations should be directed to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, C/O Rosemary Phillips, 109 Interlachen Ct W., Aiken, SC 29803.
