Funeral Services for Mrs. Olivia Douglas Schroder Garvin will be held on Thursday June 3, 2004 at 11:00 at First Presbyterian Church of Aiken. Burial will be private for family members. Visitation will be this evening from 6-8pm at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken. Memorial donations may be directed to the Aiken County Library 314 Chesterfield St. S Aiken, SC 29801.
Mrs. Garvin died at Aiken Regional Medical Centers on Monday May 31, 2004, which was her 90th birthday. A daughter of the late Wyman & Henrietta Ricketts Schroder, she was born and lived in Aiken her entire life. She was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church, a circle leader and an honorary life member of the church since 1986. She spearheaded the South Carolina Tri-centennial restoration of Coker Springs and was a charter member of the Historic Aiken Foundation. The Aiken Area Chamber of Commerce recognized her as the ?Woman of the Year? in 1978 for her preservation work. Mrs. Garvin was also a former Girl Scout Leader and served on the Board of the Savannah River Council. She was an active participant the Junior Student Club of Aiken, was a charter member of the Green Garden Club and a life member of the Garden Club of SC and the National Garden Club.
Mrs. Garvin was pre-deceased by her husband, Lonnie Arnold Garvin, Sr., who died in 1993. She is survived by a son, Douglas Schroder Garvin, Aiken, three daughters; Mary Arnold Garvin, Columbia, SC, Olivia G. Post, Aiken and Annette Hair, Orlando, FL, and a stepson, Lonnie Arnold Garvin, Jr., Aiken. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 18 great grand children.
