Mr. Hanlon was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Even after several moves and more than 20 years away from Chicago he would still proudly tell you he was a Chicago boy. He volunteered and served in the Army in Europe during World War II. After returning home, he married a girl from the neighborhood Frances Haggerty. Except for few years in DesMoines Iowa, he spent his working years in Chicago. He eventually fulfilled his dream of owning a business when he purchased Granville Stationery. After he retired he and Frances moved to Dayton Ohio to assist his sister in law and her husband. He lost his beloved wife in 1998 while they were living in Dayton. He remained in Dayton until 2005, when he moved to Aiken to be near family. In Aiken he was able to enjoy being with three generations of nieces and nephews. This was a special blessing for him because his nieces and nephews had always been a big part of his life. A devout Catholic all of his life, he was an active member of St. Mary Help of Christians Church in Aiken.
Mr. Hanlon was a loving uncle and is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, from New Jersey to California, including locally, Dr. Nick Kuehn and his wife, Charlotte and Mary Ann Maddox and her husband Paul, all of Aiken.
